Shelly Read

Shelly is a Clinical Psychologist and has been working with children, adolescents, adults and families since 2000. In addition to private practice, Shelly has worked within various mental health settings in Canberra, London and the Gold Coast as a clinician, mentor and a manager.

Shelly offers evidence-based treatment for behavioural, social and emotional challenges. When working with young people, Shelly actively includes parents and carers to ensure the best outcome for the young person and the wider family network.

Adult patients can expect a warm, collaborative approach to therapy, where they are listened to and feel safe. Shelly also co-facilitates the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Program at The Lakeside Rooms and supports the integration of complementary therapies.

Shelly has specialist training in the field of eating disorders and provides supervision, training and consultation in this area, as well as supervision in the wider mental health arena. Shelly has published in the areas of mental health recovery and Maudsley Family Based Treatment (FBT) for adolescent anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

Shelly is accredited with the Supervisor Training and Accreditation Program (STAP) through Griffith University and provides professional supervision towards endorsement with the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists (APS, CCLIN).

Shelly’s therapeutic approach stems from a non-judgemental and compassionate stance.

Areas of interest: anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, eating disorders, body image disturbances, parenting, as well as helping people find a greater connection to their inner acumen.
